Thai Massage – the traditional art of bodywork

Classic Thai massage performed at Tera Thai by therapists from Thailand. Acupressure, energy lines (sen), assisted stretching. Salons in Gdynia-Redłowo and Gdańsk-Zaspa. Online or phone booking.

    What is traditional Thai massage?

Thai massage (Nuad Bo Rarn) is a 2000-year-old healing tradition combining Ayurvedic medicine, Buddhist philosophy and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The session is performed on a mat in comfortable clothing, without oil. The therapist uses hands, elbows, knees and feet to press energy lines (sen) and guide you through assisted stretches. The result is rare: deep regeneration combined with a feeling of lightness.

History and philosophy of Thai massage

Thai massage developed over 2000 years in the Buddhist monasteries of Thailand. Its founder, the physician Jivaka Komarabhacca, was a personal therapist to the Buddha. The tradition survives thanks to oral master-to-student transmission and the reliefs at Wat Pho temple in Bangkok, still a major training centre today.

At its core lies the concept of sen — 72,000 energy lines crossing the body. Working with the ten main sen restores the flow of vital energy (lom pran), releases blockages and rebalances body, breath and mind. It is closer to movement therapy than to a Western «massage».

How does it differ from classic massage?

Classic (Swedish) massage focuses on muscle tissue, uses oil and is performed lying down. Thai massage is done in clothing, on a mat, combining pressure with assisted yoga. For many clients it is more engaging — and at the same time deeper.

How a session works at Tera Thai

Every visit begins with a short conversation about how you feel, any injuries and your preferred intensity. You receive comfortable clothes for the treatment. In the first minutes the therapist «reads» your tension with feet and hands, then introduces deeper pressure and stretching techniques.

A full 90- or 120-minute session covers all muscle groups — feet, legs, hips, back, arms, neck and head. After the session you are offered warm tea and a moment of quiet. We recommend drinking more water and avoiding intense exercise on the day of the visit.

    Who is Thai massage for?

Thai massage is universal: ideal for office workers, amateur athletes (recovery), seniors (with adjusted intensity) and pregnant women after the first trimester in safe variants. If this is your first visit we recommend 60–90 minutes at a gentle intensity.

Contraindications include fresh injuries, fever, uncontrolled hypertension, thrombosis and certain skin conditions. If in doubt, consult your doctor or tell the therapist before the session — we will adjust techniques or suggest an alternative.
