How to prepare for a massage — what is worth knowing

Practical tips before your first massage: meal, clothing, the conversation with your therapist and what to do afterwards.

Calm interior of the Tera Thai massage room before a treatment

    Before your visit

Arrive a few minutes early so you can calm down before the treatment. Do not eat a large meal right before the massage — a light snack 1–2 hours earlier is enough. Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol on the day of your visit.

    What to wear

For a Thai massage wear comfortable, loose clothing — we perform it without oil and without undressing. For oil massages such as a Balinese massage we work on the body; you undress to the level where you feel comfortable, and intimate areas are always covered.

    What to tell the therapist

Before the session, mention any injuries, pain, pregnancy, chronic conditions and medications you take. Say what you expect — relaxation or work on tension — and what intensity you prefer. During the massage you can also ask for firmer or gentler work.

    After the massage

After the treatment, get up slowly, drink some water and give yourself a moment of calm. Avoid intense exercise and the sauna that day. A slight feeling of relaxation or drowsiness is normal — a sign that the body is recovering.

    Contraindications

We do not perform a massage with, among others, fever, infection, fresh injuries, thrombosis and certain illnesses. During pregnancy and with chronic conditions, consult the treatment with your doctor. Have questions before your visit? Write via contact or check the FAQ.
