Balinese hot volcanic stone massage

Balinese hot stone massage combines Pijat Bali techniques with heat therapy using natural volcanic stones — warmth relaxes muscles deeper than pressure alone can. The full ritual takes 120 minutes and costs 429 PLN. Available in Gdańsk and Gdynia.

What this massage involves

Balinese Hot Stone Massage

Smooth volcanic stones are heated to a safe, controlled temperature, then glided over the body and placed at key points — along the back, on the neck, palms and feet. Warmed tissue relaxes faster and deeper, so we achieve the effect of a firm massage without firm pressure.

The heat of the stones warms the muscles deeply, and alternating the stones with warm-oiled hands gives the characteristic feeling of tension “melting away”. It's a truly seasonal treatment in the best sense — unbeatable in autumn and winter.

The ritual takes a full two hours because heat therapy itself needs time: the stones work in waves, and the body gradually releases tension. If you're looking for a shorter oil-based session, consider Lomi-Lomi or the classic Balinese massage.

The treatment step by step

  1. Heating the volcanic stones to a controlled, safe temperature.
  2. Applying warm oil and the first slow strokes with a stone along the back.
  3. Placing stones at key points — along the spine, on the palms and feet — so the heat works deep.
  4. Alternating stone and hand work, combining heat therapy with classic massage.
  5. Removing the stones and closing the session with calm, stroking movements.

Step by step

What a visit looks like

1. Consultation. A short conversation about how you're feeling and any contraindications (including high blood pressure, diabetes, varicose veins) — every visit begins with this.

2. Preparation. You can take a shower on site; fresh towels and linens await, and the stones and oil are already heated to a safe temperature. Every massage also begins with a brief foot-washing ceremony.

3. Massage. Warmed stones are guided along tense areas of the body, alternating with hand pressure. You can always adjust the temperature with one word.

4. Afterwards. After 120 minutes of warmth, it's worth sitting quietly for a moment and drinking a glass of water before returning to your daily routine.

Safety

Contraindications and preparation

We do not perform hot stone massage in cases of high blood pressure, diabetes with impaired sensation, varicose veins, fever and infections, fresh injuries, thrombosis, or the first trimester of pregnancy — the high temperature of the stones calls for extra caution here. If in doubt, please get your doctor's approval beforehand. We cover the full list in our contraindications guide.

Set aside a moment before your session to shower — fresh towels are waiting on site. Tell the therapist if you have sensitive skin or circulation issues, so they can adjust the stone temperature. After the treatment, give your body time to cool down before heading out into the cold or heat.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • The full ritual takes 120 minutes and costs 429 PLN. It's a deliberately long session — heat therapy needs time to warm the tissue and let it gradually release tension.

  • No — the stones are heated to a controlled, safe temperature and always tested first. The heat is meant to feel intensely pleasant; if it's ever too much, one word is enough to adjust it.

  • For chronic muscle tension combined with a feeling of cold and stiffness — most often in autumn and winter. It's also chosen by people who want deep relaxation but don't respond well to the strong pressure of classic deep-tissue massage.
