Swedish massage — the European classic of relaxation
Swedish massage is the most classic European technique: stroking, rubbing and kneading with warm oil. It's a firm, intense massage, and we adjust the pressure to you on the spot. If it's your first massage, it's hard to find a better start. A session from 60 minutes costs 229 PLN. Book it at Tera Thai in Gdańsk and Gdynia.
What this massage involves
Swedish massage is built on five techniques: stroking (effleurage), kneading (petrissage), rubbing, gentle tapping and vibration. The therapist guides these movements toward the heart.
It's a firm, intense massage, but not a painful one. Your therapist adjusts the pressure to you on the spot; just say whether you'd like it firmer or gentler. It also works well in the middle of the day, not just in the evening.
Swedish is an excellent reference point: once you know it, it's easier to choose other techniques — the more enveloping Lomi-Lomi, the more targeted Chinese massage, or Thai massage with its stretching.
The treatment step by step
- Effleurage — long, stroking movements that warm the skin and ease the body into the massage.
- Petrissage — kneading the muscles and working deeper into the tissue.
- Rubbing — more intense pressure at the points of greatest tension.
- Tapping and vibration — a brisk finish to work on a given area.
- Returning to effleurage — calming and closing an area before moving on.

What a visit looks like
1. Consultation. A short conversation about how you're feeling, any discomfort and your preferred pressure.
2. Preparation. You can take a shower on site; fresh towels, linens and warmed oil are all standard. Every massage also begins with a brief foot-washing ceremony.
3. Massage. Classic, flowing stroking, kneading and rubbing movements are guided along the whole body. You can ask to change the pace or pressure at any moment — one word is enough.
4. Afterwards. A moment of rest and a glass of water. This is the most versatile of our massages, so you can usually head straight back to your day.

Contraindications and preparation
We do not perform Swedish massage in cases including fever and infections, fresh injuries and inflammation, thrombosis, skin conditions at the treatment site, and the first trimester of pregnancy. For chronic illnesses please get your doctor's approval beforehand — every visit begins with a short health consultation. Full list in our contraindications guide.
Arrive a few minutes early to use the shower — towels and linens are always fresh. Avoid a heavy meal right before your session and tell the therapist about your pressure preferences. After the massage, drink a glass of water and, if possible, avoid jumping straight into physical exertion.
