Hot Stone Massage — what it involves and when to choose it

When the days get shorter and the muscles feel cold and stiff, heat can do more than firm pressure. Here is how the Balinese hot stone ritual works, why it takes a full two hours, and who it suits best.

What a hot stone massage involves

The Balinese hot stone massage combines Pijat Bali techniques with thermotherapy using natural volcanic stones. Smooth stones are heated to a safe, controlled temperature, then glided over the body and placed at key points — along the back, on the neck, hands and feet.

Warmed tissue relaxes faster and deeper, so the effect of a strong massage arrives without strong pressure. The alternating work of stones and hands with warm oil gives that signature feeling of tension melting away.

Why a full 120 minutes

Thermotherapy itself needs time: the stones work in waves and the body gives up its tension gradually. That is why the ritual lasts a full two hours and costs 429 PLN. If you want a shorter oil session, consider Lomi Lomi or a classic Balinese massage — both come in a 60-minute option.

Who this massage is for

  • chronically tense, cold-feeling muscles and a permanent chill,
  • stiff back and neck after a season of desk work,
  • anyone who wants deep release but handles firm pressure poorly,
  • the need for a longer, two-hour ritual instead of a quick session,
  • a gift — a voucher for the autumn and winter months.

If you are torn between techniques, see the guide to the whole menu or the comparison Thai or Balinese massage.

What the visit looks like

Every session starts with a short consultation and the foot-washing ceremony. The stones and oil are already heated to a safe temperature, and during the treatment you can adjust the heat with a single word — it should be intensely pleasant, never borderline. After 120 minutes it is worth staying still for a moment and drinking a glass of water before returning to the day.

Contraindications

The high temperature of the stones calls for extra caution. We do not perform hot stone massage with hypertension, diabetes with sensory impairment, varicose veins, fever and infections, fresh injuries, thrombosis, or in the first trimester of pregnancy. When in doubt, please check with your doctor first — the full list is in the contraindications guide.

The season for heat

This is a seasonal treatment in the best sense — in autumn and winter nothing else comes close. The ritual is available at both salons, in Gdansk and Gdynia. Full prices are in the price list.
