Massage for lower back pain
Lumbar pain after long sitting, that stiff “stuck” feeling when you get out of bed? For the lower back we recommend Thai massage (hip and hamstring stretching) or Balinese with warm oil — long, deep movements that warm the paraspinal muscles. Gdańsk and Gdynia, open daily 12:00–22:00.
When it's worth coming in
- Lumbar pain after long sitting that eases after a short walk
- A “stuck” stiffness in the lower back after getting out of bed
- Lower-back fatigue after physical work
- Tension after long car journeys
- Recovery after intense leg training
The anatomy of lumbar pain
Behind most “ordinary” lower-back pain are overworked paraspinal muscles and a shortened hip flexor. The latter pulls the spine forward every time you sit — and with too little movement, it stiffens permanently.
A second common scenario is tight glutes and hamstrings, which restrict pelvic movement and force the lumbar spine to work harder. The result is pain right when you wake up and when sitting down.
Massage doesn't treat disc herniation or structural changes, and it doesn't replace a diagnosis. It helps tight muscles relax, and it also makes it easier to notice when you're tensing up for no reason during the day.

Sitting is half the problem
A good rhythm is a 60–90 minute session every 2–3 weeks, with short movement breaks during the day. Driver? Office worker? Also see massage for office workers and our article massage for back and neck pain.
Frequently asked questions
-
Massage doesn't treat a herniated disc — with a diagnosed condition, you'll need your doctor's approval and must inform the therapist before the treatment. We then work more gently, avoiding intense protocols; with acute sciatica, see a doctor first.
-
Balinese with warm oil — long movements quickly warm up stiff lumbar and hip muscles. For regular long journeys, a session every 2 weeks is a good rhythm.
-
After a night in one position and long days at a desk, the lower back is often simply stiff. Massage relaxes the lower back and hips; if the morning stiffness doesn't go away or gets worse, see a doctor or physiotherapist.
