Massage for shoulder pain — release your shoulder girdle

Raised shoulders, a “stone” between the shoulder blades, a stab of pain when you lift your arm? For stiff shoulders we combine point work (Shiatsu, Thai acupressure) with chest stretching, because with a rounded posture the chest is tight too. Visit us in Gdańsk or Gdynia.

Does this sound familiar?

When it's worth coming in

  • A “stone” feeling between the shoulder blades after work
  • Trouble raising your arm above ear height
  • A sharp pain when reaching behind your back
  • Raised shoulders you can't actively lower
  • Shoulder fatigue disproportionate to your activity level
How it works

Why your shoulders hurt

The shoulder girdle is the most mobile area of the body — and the place where we most often “carry” stress. The upper trapezius, levator scapulae and rotator cuff work all day, stabilising the head and arm position at the keyboard.

On top of that comes a rounded posture: the chest contracts, the shoulder blades slide forward, and the upper-back muscles pull “backward” all day without rest. The result is chronic fatigue, a tight neck and less reach in your arms.

During the massage the therapist relaxes the overworked muscles, then slowly stretches the chest and shoulders. After a session your shoulders usually feel lighter and are easier to let drop.

In practice

Shoulders and the chest

We work from two sides: relaxing the upper back and opening the chest. A good rhythm is a 60–90 minute session every 2–3 weeks, plus simple chest-muscle stretches at home. Related guides: massage for neck pain and massage after the gym.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Often it's a reaction to stress: the shoulders rise with tension and stay there. During a massage they can fully let go, and afterwards it's easier to notice when you raise them again during the day.

  • A good choice is Shiatsu — point work directly at the knot — or a Balinese back and shoulder massage (60 min) if you prefer warm-oil work focused just on that area.

  • After deadlifts and pressing, point work combined with warming (hot stones) is a good choice. Come 24–48 hours after training; details in our guide to post-gym massage.
