Massage for cyclists

Road or MTB — the saddle position is tough on the neck, lower back and glutes. Our protocol for cyclists: Thai stretching of the hip flexors and chest, Balinese work on the quads and glutes, targeted release of the piriformis. Gdańsk and Gdynia.

Does this sound familiar?

A cyclist's warning signs

  • Neck stiffness after 2 hours in the saddle
  • A stiff lower back when getting off the bike
  • A tight piriformis and tense glutes
  • Tired hands and feet after a long ride
  • A “closed-off” chest and shallow breathing
How it works

A cyclist's anatomy

The forward-leaning position loads the cervical spine (keeping your eyes on the road), closes off the chest, and shortens the hip flexors. Hours in the saddle also tighten the glutes and piriformis.

Classic complaints: neck stiffness after a long ride, a stiff lower back when getting off the bike, numbness in the fingers and the inside of the foot — from pressure and immobility.

Massage relaxes muscles tightened by long rides in a forward-leaning position, deep into the glutes too. It's work a foam roller can't do — especially for the piriformis.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • Work on the forearms and wrists relaxes tight arms, but numbness can also come from your position and bike setup (grip, handlebar height). If the numbness persists off the bike — see a doctor first.

  • 24–48 hours after: Balinese with warm oil on the quads, calves and glutes, or Thai if you mainly feel stiffness in the hips and back.

  • Your position depends mainly on bike fit. Massage relaxes muscles tightened by riding (hip flexors, pecs), so a low position may feel more comfortable afterwards.
